A pit is a small underground chamber that houses cables, conduit or infrastructure at an access point, with a lid fitted flush at ground level to cover it. P5 refers to a standard pit and lid size used across telecommunications, electrical, rail and other infrastructure projects in Australia.
This P5 concrete lid carries a Class A load rating to AS/NZS 3996, suited to pedestrian access points. An embossing on top identifies the network or authority it’s for, or it comes plain with no marking. Steel-reinforced concrete gives it a minimum 40MPa strength rating.

This lid is Class A — for people and bikes only, on footpaths, walkways and landscaped areas closed to vehicles. AS 3996 directs that where there’s any doubt about which class a site needs, the stronger class should be chosen. Only the marking on the top of the lid — the material, size, weight and load rating are identical across every version. Choose the embossing that matches your project’s network or authority.
