Description

Class 400 Agi Pipe – Convic Australia

Convic Australia supplies the Class 400 Agi Pipe, also known as ag pipe, agg lines, drainage pipes, soakage drains or drain flex. This dual-wall pipe, black in color, is designed for efficient subsurface drainage systems and is commonly used in agricultural, residential, and commercial applications.

What is Agi Pipe?

Agi pipes play a crucial role in drainage systems, effectively managing water flow and preventing waterlogging in various environments. These pipes are widely used for agricultural drainage, landscaping, retaining walls, and other underground drainage projects.

Features and Benefits

The Class 400 Agi Pipe features a dual-wall construction. Its corrugated exterior enhances strength and durability, while the smooth interior ensures efficient water flow. This design offers several benefits:

  • Durability: The corrugated exterior provides structural integrity, making it suitable for heavy-duty applications.
  • Efficient Water Flow: The smooth interior minimizes friction, ensuring optimal water flow and reducing the risk of blockages.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Made from materials that resist corrosion, the Class 400 Agi Pipe performs well in aggressive soil conditions, ensuring longevity and reliability.
  • Flexibility: You can install the pipe around curves and corners without additional fittings, allowing it to adapt to ground movements and reducing the risk of damage.
  • High-Quality Manufacturing: Manufactured in Australia to high standards, the pipe ensures consistent performance and supports the local economy.
  • Uniform Drainage: The slotted versions have uniform slot patterns, allowing even water entry along the pipe’s length for efficient drainage and prevention of waterlogging.
  • Ease of Installation: The lightweight and flexible nature of the pipe makes it easy to handle and install. You can lay it out using various methods such as a backhoe, chain digger, or direct ploughing into the soil.
  • Range of Sizes and Fittings: Available in diameters from 65mm to 160mm and in various coil lengths, along with a comprehensive range of fittings to suit various drainage projects.

Variations

  1. Slotted No Sock
    • Ideal for applications where the pipe needs to collect water from the surrounding soil.
    • The slots allow water to enter the pipe while keeping larger particles out.
    • Commonly used in agricultural fields and landscaping projects where soil filtration is not a primary concern.
  2. Slotted With Sock (Filter Sock)
    • This version includes a filter sock, which acts as a barrier to prevent fine soil particles from entering the pipe and causing blockages.
    • Perfect for areas with fine or sandy soils.
    • Enhances the longevity and efficiency of the drainage system by maintaining optimal water flow and preventing sediment build-up.
  3. Unslotted (Unsocked)
    • Used for water transportation without the need for soil filtration.
    • Ideal for applications where only water conveyance is required, such as in irrigation systems.

Diameter Options

You can choose the Class 400 Agi Pipe in three diameters to accommodate different project needs:

  • 65mm Diameter: Suitable for smaller residential projects or tight spaces.
  • 100mm Diameter: The most commonly used size, perfect for general drainage applications.
  • 160mm Diameter: Ideal for larger commercial or agricultural projects requiring higher water flow capacity.

Class 400 vs. Class 1000

The Class 400 Agi Pipe, rated SN8, is the standard choice for most general drainage applications due to its balance of strength and flexibility. It is versatile, cost-effective, and sufficient for most residential and commercial drainage needs.

On the other hand, the Class 1000 Agi Pipe, rated SN20, provides superior strength and VicRoads approves it. This makes it suitable for more demanding applications such as road construction and heavy-duty industrial projects. The higher strength of Class 1000 pipes ensures they can withstand greater external loads and pressures.

Can I connect an AGI pipe to stormwater?

We advise against connecting your ag pipes to stormwater pipes. It’s better to use separate pipes to avoid potential flooding issues. If you connect ag pipes to roof downpipes, it can cause water to backflow into the ag pipe, leading to flooding in the trench meant for water collection.

How deep should an AG-pipe be buried?

Generally, the trench should be wide enough to leave space equal to the pipe’s width on both sides, and the top of the pipe should be at least 100mm below the finished surface. A typical trench might be about 200mm wide (65mm space + 65mm pipe + 65mm space) and 180mm deep.
